About this course

Level 2 Information and Creative Technology Course in Derby. Classes run at Derby College @ the Joseph Wright Centre, full-time over 36 weeks.

The course covers a broad range of IT topics. You'll explore how businesses use technology to communicate, how to work with spreadsheets and databases, and how to create digital graphics and websites. Units also cover mobile apps, software development, and hardware maintenance. Alongside the IT content, you'll develop your maths and English skills.

You'll finish with a Pearson Edexcel BTEC First Extended Certificate in Information and Creative Technology.

Who this course is for

This qualification enables you to gain a broad knowledge of IT subjects, to explore the opportunities offered in the IT sector and to acquire appropriate vocational skills.  You will study how IT is used to communicate within businesses, the career opportunities available in the IT industry, how businesses use spreadsheets and databases, and how to present information effectively.You will also develop your skills in maths and English, which will support your main programme of study, help your future progression and enhance your life skills.

Entry requirements

You need four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, to include English and/or maths.  You will be expected to re-sit GCSE maths and/or English if you achieved a grade 3.  Alternatively, you should have a Merit grade qualification at Level 1, along with Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy.You expected to maintain an attendance level of 90% or higher throughout the year.Should you need to resit both English and maths GCSE's you may be eligible for the L2 Certificate in ICT.

This is a classroom-based course studied full-time during the day. You'll complete a mix of units assessed through assignments and practical projects. Assessment is portfolio-based, with work submitted throughout the year rather than through end-of-year exams. You'll build a digital portfolio as part of your studies.
