About this course

Level 2 Hairdressing Course in Lewisham. Classes run at Lewisham College, full-time during the day.

The course covers the professional skills and knowledge you need to work in a salon. You'll study cutting, colouring, styling, and the science behind hair and scalp treatments. The course runs over 35 weeks. Entry requires four GCSEs including English at grade A* to D, or equivalent. You'll also meet with staff and complete a short writing task before you start.

You'll finish with a VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing Studies.

Entry requirements

The entry requirements are four GCSEs (must include English) at grade A*-D/9-3, Level 1 qualification in a relevant vocational area (desirable but not essential) you will meet with staff to discuss whether this course is suitable for you and we will ask you to complete a free writing task to demonstrate an appropriate level of English ability. You may also be asked to perform a trade test.

  • You'll learn how to shampoo, condition, and treat the scalp.

  • You'll build client consultation skills, including how to assess hair and agree on a look.
  • You'll learn health, safety, and hygiene standards for salon work.

How you will learn

You'll learn through practical sessions in a salon environment at Lewisham College, alongside classroom study. Assessment includes practical observations, where an assessor watches you carry out treatments to a professional standard. You'll also complete written assignments and tests covering the underpinning knowledge for each unit.
