Who this course is for

This programme is particularly well-suited for adults who may not have achieved GCSE qualifications and who have been out of formal education for some time. It offers a supportive and accessible route back into learning, helping individuals build confidence and essential skills, especially for those looking to pursue a career in engineering. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed with a balance of theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical units, enabling learners to engage with the material in a meaningful and applicable way. For those interested in engineering, the course introduces fundamental concepts and practices that support progression into more advanced study, such as a Level 3 engineering programme. Learners will develop skills needed to carry out different activities related to operational engineering. They will also gain transferable skills valued by employers, such as working efficiently and effectively, contributing to improved business performance, and carrying out tasks in compliance with regulatory and legal requirements. Importantly, the absence of formal examinations removes a significant barrier to success for many adult learners. Instead, the programme focuses on coursework-based assessments that reflect real-world skills and understanding. This approach enhances both achievement and retention, creating a positive and encouraging learning experience that prepares learners to move forward with confidence, whether into engineering or other technical pathways.
