About this course

Level 2 BTEC Award for Upskilling a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry Course in Bristol. Classes run at South Bristol Skills Academy. If you hold a current SIA Door Supervisor licence issued before September 2010, this qualification is a mandatory requirement to renew your licence and continue working in the role. The course runs over one week, part-time during the day. You must be 18 years old or over and hold Level 1 in English. A paper-based English assessment takes place on the first day.

Who this course is for

If you hold a current SIA Door Supervisor licence that was issued prior to September 2010 then you will need this qualification to continue working within the same field and obtain a licence to practise. This is a mandatory requirement of the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

Entry requirements

Candidates must hold a current SIA Door Supervisor licence that was gained prior to September 2010. Candidates must be 18 years old or over and have Level 1 in English. Please note that all candidates will be required to complete a paper based English assessment during the first day of the course and demonstrate Level 1 or above.

What you will learn

  • You'll refresh your knowledge of current SIA licensing requirements and standards.
  • You'll update your understanding of legislation relevant to door supervisors.
  • You'll review conflict management techniques and how to apply them safely.
  • You'll revisit physical intervention principles in line with current guidelines.
  • You'll strengthen your awareness of equality, diversity, and human rights in a security context.
  • You'll consolidate your understanding of search procedures and crime scene preservation.

How you will learn

Learning takes place in the classroom over one week of daytime sessions. You'll be assessed through a paper-based English assessment on day one to confirm you meet the Level 1 English entry requirement. Assessment for the qualification itself is through the methods specified by Pearson Edexcel for this BTEC Award, which your tutor will explain at the start of the course.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. South Bristol Skills Academy will confirm anything else you need before you start. You must bring proof of your current SIA Door Supervisor licence, as this is required to enrol on the course.
