Level 2 Barbering Course in Nottingham. Classes run at Nottingham College Adams Building, one day per week during the daytime. The course runs over 34 weeks, so you can build your skills at a manageable pace alongside other commitments. You'll cover client consultation, shampooing and conditioning, cutting men's hair, and working with facial hair. These are the foundation barbering skills employers look for in a barber's shop. A practical dexterity test is required before enrolment.

Who this course is for

This course is perfect if you want to work as a barber, it will give you the foundation barbering skills required to work in a barbers shop.

You need to be highly motivated and demonstrate a keen interest in your chosen subject. The ideal candidate will be a good communicator and listener with excellent social skills, demonstrate a degree of creative skills and flair with a good personality and physical stamina. Computer skills are also an essential requirement.

NVQ Level 2 in Barbering is a qualification that provides knowledge, understanding and core skills required to be a barber.

Entry requirements

You will need:

To be aged 19+

You’ll need 4 GCSEs at grades 9–3 (A*–D), including English and maths – one of English or Maths must be grade 9–4 (A*–C) or equivalent.

19+ learners without evidence of English & maths qualifications will complete an initial assessment. Results will need to reflect a grade of a 3 and 4 in English & Maths.

All students must undertake and pass a practical dexterity test prior to enrolment to ensure you are suitable for this course.

How you will learn

You'll learn through practical, hands-on sessions in the barbering salon at Adams Building, attending one day per week. Assessment includes practical skills demonstrations and knowledge-based tasks covering the mandatory units. You'll need to pass a practical dexterity test before you enrol. The course is classroom and salon based throughout.
