Who this course is for

This course is for those interested in exploring the creative potential of a wide range of art and design mediums. Our students develop their skills and apply them to design projects in areas such as painting and drawing, textiles, photography and 3D and 4D design. There will be opportunities to visit exhibitions, museums and galleries, get involved in art and design competitions and work on live projects with clients and community groups. You will learn through a combination of workshops, practical/theory sessions, practical assignment work and regular reflective practice.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above. One of these should be English or maths. Students with lower than a grade 4 in Maths and/or English will resit as part of their study programme. Some previous art study would be advantageous but is not essential.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop skills in painting and drawing across a range of styles and materials.
  • You'll explore textiles, including design, construction, and surface decoration.
  • You'll learn photography, from composition to image editing.
  • You'll work in 3D and 4D design, creating physical and time-based work.
  • You'll apply your skills to design briefs and live client projects.
  • You'll visit galleries, museums, and exhibitions to broaden your creative knowledge.
  • You'll build a portfolio of work across different art and design mediums.

How you will learn

You'll learn through a mix of practical workshops and studio sessions. Assessment is portfolio-based, with your work across different projects forming the evidence. You'll also take part in live briefs with clients and community groups. Students who need to resit GCSE Maths or English will do so alongside the course.

What you will need to bring
