About this course

HNC Photography Course in Blackpool. Classes run at Blackpool and The Fylde College University Centre Campus, full-time during the day.

You study for one year. Topics include photographic practice, visual communication, creative development, and professional skills for the photography industry. The course is designed around the realities of working in creative industries.

You'll need 64 UCAS points in a relevant subject, plus GCSE English and maths at grade C or 4 or above. Relevant work experience or prior learning may also be considered. You finish with a Pearson Edexcel BTEC Higher National Certificate in Photography.

Who this course is for

The HNC in Photography is the first step on a flexible pathway towards a BA (Hons) degree in Creative Practice. Designed around the realities of the creative industries and the need for flexibility in modern life, this course allows you to develop your degree one year at a time. You can progress, pause or change direction while still gaining a recognised, industry‑relevant qualification at each stage. This staged approach means you don't need to commit to three full years of study from the outset. The course allows you to: explore your creative direction and photographic style; develop your technical and visual confidence at a manageable pace; gain a formal qualification at the end of each year. You can step away at any stage with an industry‑recognised award that supports employment or freelance practice within the creative industries. Based at Blackpool School of Arts, you'll study in a dynamic and supportive creative environment that encourages experimentation, collaboration and visual exploration. You'll benefit from: a multi‑disciplinary curriculum covering a wide range of photographic practices; opportunities to collaborate with students across other creative programmes; small class sizes and personalised tutorial support. This studio‑based approach supports creative risk‑taking and the development of a confident photographic voice. Alongside developing your photographic practice, you'll build practical skills that support a sustainable career in the creative industries. You'll learn how to: apply a range of photographic techniques and processes using traditional and digital tools; produce professional‑quality visual work using industry‑standard equipment and software; manage multiple creative projects effectively; build enterprise skills, including self‑promotion, portfolio development and networking.
