Who this course is for

Learners studying this course will be taught at and learn from The Fleetwood Hospital building. Functional Skills English is a practical and nationally recognised qualification designed to help you develop the reading, writing, speaking and communication skills needed for everyday life, employment and further study. Unlike traditional English qualifications that often focus on the analysis of literature, Functional Skills English develops the skills you use in real-world situations. You will learn how to read and understand information from a range of sources, write clearly and accurately for different purposes, and communicate confidently in discussions, presentations and workplace situations. These are the skills that employers, training providers and colleges/universities value highly. The qualification is available at a range of levels, from Entry Level through to Level 2, allowing you to study at a level that is appropriate for your current skills and experience. Before starting the course, you may complete an initial assessment to help identify the most suitable level for you. Whether you are returning to education, preparing for employment, applying for an apprenticeship, or seeking to progress to further study, Functional Skills English can help you achieve your goals. It is particularly beneficial for learners who have not yet achieved a GCSE grade 4 or above in English and wish to gain a recognised alternative qualification.
