You will develop an understanding of early years and education, including child development – understanding how children grow and develop from birth to 8 years, including physical, cognitive, emotional and social development. Education and childcare practice – how to plan, implement and evaluate activities that support children’s learning and development. Safeguarding, health and wellbeing – understanding safeguarding responsibilities, child protection procedures, and how to promote children’s health, safety and wellbeing. Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) – recognising individual needs and supporting inclusive practice. Professional practice – understanding the roles and responsibilities of professionals working with children, communication with families and colleagues, and ethical practice. Theories and legislation – knowledge of key early years and education theories, frameworks and relevant legislation and guidance. In addition to the core content, each student will also complete the occupation‑specific content relevant to early years and education roles.
