About this course

Level 4 Beauty Therapy Course in Hastings. Classes run at East Sussex College Hastings Station Plaza Campus, part-time on Mondays and Tuesdays during the day. You'll need a Level 3 qualification in a related subject to enrol. The course runs over one year and covers advanced techniques including microdermabrasion, IPL laser and light treatments, and skin rejuvenation. You'll work with real clients in the college's commercial salon and practise laser treatments in a dedicated IPL laser room. As of 2016, a Level 4 beauty therapy qualification is required to perform laser and IPL treatments professionally.

Completed a Level 3 qualification in a related subject.

What you will learn

  • You'll master advanced microdermabrasion techniques, including spiralling and cross-hatching, to treat scarring and stretch marks.
  • You'll learn to perform IPL and intense laser treatments for hair removal and skin rejuvenation.
  • You'll study dermatology and microbiology, including growing bacteria to understand hygiene principles in a salon setting.
  • You'll identify and understand skin imperfections such as telangiectasia, spider naevi, photo ageing, and uneven pigmentation.
  • You'll explore the science behind hair, skin, and nail disorders, their causes, and how to treat them.
  • You'll carry out treatments on clients in a commercial salon and record a minimum of four client case studies.

How you will learn

Learning takes place in the classroom, in a dedicated IPL laser room, and in a commercial salon. You'll combine theory lessons with hands-on client work. Assessment includes practical treatments carried out on clients, with a minimum of four recorded client case studies forming part of your assessment. Theory is assessed alongside practical work throughout the course.
