You study while working or volunteering in a school, building your evidence from real tasks in your role. The course covers communication with children and young people, safeguarding, equality and inclusion, supporting learning activities, and child development. You'll need sufficient language and literacy skills to complete the qualification, and a job or voluntary position in a school setting. The course typically takes 16 months.
Who this course is for
This programme is for people who support teachers in schools, and who work largely unsupervised, contributing toward assessments and familiar with planning. It will enable you to obtain a nationally recognised qualification while you work.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements, but you will need to have sufficient language and literacy skills to be able to achieve the qualification. Since this qualification is assessed in the workplace, you need a job or voluntary position within a school setting that offers you suitable experience and the chance to demonstrate the necessary skills.

How you will learn
You'll be allocated an assessor who guides you through a portfolio of evidence. Portfolio sessions include theory research, practical tasks, work-based projects, and resource learning. Your assessor plans and assesses your practical work in your workplace. You'll also have regular tutorials and one-to-one sessions with your assessor. You need to complete 11 mandatory units plus optional units to achieve the qualification.
