About this course

BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sport in Lincoln. Classes run at Sir William Robertson Academy, full-time over two years.

The course is free for some learners, and fees may apply for others. A bursary fund may be available to help with costs. You'll study anatomy and physiology, fitness training, sports coaching, and sports development. The course covers eight mandatory units and is equivalent in size to three A Levels. It prepares you for work in sport and physical activity, or for progression to university.

You'll finish with a Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport.

Who this course is for

This is intended as a Tech Level qualification, equivalent in size to three A Levels. It has been designed as a full two- year programme for post-16 learners. This qualification is particularly appropriate for learners who are interested in progressing to a career in sport and physical activity development, either directly, or through access to universities and higher education. Within the National Extended Diploma there are eight mandatory units: Anatomy and Physiology (external examination), Fitness Training and Programming (externally marked task), Professional Development in Sports Industry (internal assignment), Sports Leadership, Psychology in Sport, Fitness testing, Research Methods and Sports provision. A further eight modules are then selected and they include topics such as: Leisure Management, Leisure Centre operations, Sports Coaching, Sports Massage, Performance Analysis, Athletes lifestyles, Gym instruction, Exercise to music etc.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom lessons, practical sessions, and coursework assignments. Some units are assessed by external examination, including Anatomy and Physiology. Other units are assessed through assignments completed during the course. You'll attend classes during the day at Sir William Robertson Academy.
