About this course

Level 3 Medical Science Course in King's Lynn. Classes run at Springwood Sixth Form, full-time over two years. It may be free if you're 16 to 18 years old. If you're 19 or over, fees may apply, though a bursary scheme may be available.

The course covers human physiology, anatomy, and pathology. You'll study cell structure, the nervous system, the heart, and the lungs. Units also cover health issues, scientific reporting, and practical microbiology. You choose one optional unit from topics including biomedical science, diseases and treatments, or human reproduction and fertility.

You'll finish with a Pearson Edexcel BTEC National Extended Certificate in Medical Science at Level 3.

Who this course is for

This exciting new course aims to develop students applied knowledge of the medical sciences. During this course you will gain an understanding of the body alongside its anatomy and pathology. Exploring cell structure, the nervous system, the heart and lungs and many more of the body's systems. At the same time you will be developing research and practical skills essential for a career in this area and many others.

Entry requirements

A minimum of grade 4 in Maths and English Lang, plus at least 3 other GCSEs at grade 5.

Subject specific Requirements:

Grade 5-5 in Combined Science , or 2 grade 5’s in triple science and Grade 4 in Maths.

How you will learn

Units 1 and 2 are externally assessed by written exam in June, covering short and long answer questions. Unit 3 is set by Pearson and assessed internally through practical work and a detailed written report. The optional unit is also set by Pearson and assessed internally through reports, analysis, and experiments. Grades are awarded as Pass, Merit, Distinction, or Distinction*.
