About this course

Free Level 3 IT Course in Castleford. Classes run at Brigshaw High School, full-time during the day. You'll explore a wide range of IT topics, from computer graphics and control systems to communications and problem-solving. The course runs over two years and covers many aspects of the IT industry through practical tasks that build your knowledge. Entry requires ICT at grade 5 or Level 2 Merit, plus Maths and English at grade 4.

Who this course is for

IT is one of the most popular vocational qualifications/subjects offered by Brigshaw High School. IT is at the heart of everyday life, at home, work and in our leisure time from computer graphics and control systems to communications and problem-solving, IT has an ever increasing role to play. For the duration of this course you will cover many different and interesting aspects of the IT industry - you will be required to undertake a range of tasks aimed at developing your knowledge of this industry as well as developing your practical skills and ability across a range of interesting and informative projects.

You will study 5 units of work over two years to gain a qualification equivalent to 1 A level. Students will have the opportunity to learn the following subjects:

Unit 1 - The fundamentals of IT - This unit allows students to understand what an employer expects of an individual and how to communicate effectively while developing their own personal development needs.

Unit 2 - Global Information - This unit will ensure that students have a greater understanding of how organisations use information internally and externally. The skills gained by completing this unit will give students knowledge of the functionality of information and the ability to produce management systems.

As this is a new qualification we have not finalised the remaining 3 units as of yet, however, in line with our previous A2 qualifications it is highly likely that we will teach units based around the creative use of IT, e.g. Games Design, Web Design, Graphics etc.
