About this course

Free Level 3 Health and Social Care Course in East Grinstead. Classes run at Imberhorne School. This two-year, full-time daytime health and social care qualification covers the needs of different client groups, from young children to older people. You'll study communication, care values, and how services support people across the community. The course includes research in community settings. You'll need five GCSEs at grades 4 to 9, including grade 4 or above in English Language or English Literature and a grade 4-4 or above in GCSE science.

Who this course is for

The Health & Social Care course offers the chance to experience many different aspects of the care sector. You will discover the importance of good communication and the correct way to treat service users. You will be expected to go out into the community to carry out research with different client groups. It offers the opportunity to study the needs of young children through to older people. You will learn through a variety of different methods, namely interviewing people, putting together case studies, listening to outside speakers and putting on presentations. The course will enable you to gain self-confidence, learn the benefits of teamwork, improve your ICT and research skills and gain further qualifications.

WHERE DOES IT LEAD? On completing your course youcould either go into employment or go on to university. Past pupils are studying and working as Operating Department Practitioners, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Mental Health and Adult Nurses. Some students choose to embark on employment based training routes and many currently train 'on the job' in nurseries, pre-schools, care agencies, NCYPE to name a few. Last year one of our students graduated with a 2.1 in Primary Education.

5 GCSEs @ Grades 4-9, including 4+ GCSE English Literature or English Language and 4-4 or better in GCSE science

How you will learn

The course uses a blend of exams and coursework. You'll learn through classroom sessions, interviews with people in the community, and case study work. Assessment combines written examinations with coursework assignments. You'll also go out into the community to carry out research, which feeds into your assessed work.
