About this course

Free Level 3 Hairdressing Course. Work-based training at your workplace. You train in a salon while you work, building on an existing Level 2 hair or barbering qualification. The course covers advanced technical skills across a range of hairdressing services. You'll need to be employed in a salon to take this route. The course typically takes 6 months. You'll need a Level 2 hair or barbering qualification to enrol, and you'll have an initial assessment to review your current skills before you start.

Who this course is for

This is a technical level qualification that provides the knowledge, understanding and skills to work as an employed and/or selfemployed hairdresser, able to work on hair, combining a variety of different technical skills. This qualification is ideal for those who hold a hairdressing or barbering qualification and work in a salon.

Entry requirements

Must be working in salon and qualified in a Level 2 Hair or Barbering qualification.

An Initial assessment will also be carried out to provide a skills analysis.

  • You'll develop advanced cutting techniques for a range of hair types and styles.
  • You'll carry out colouring and lightening services to a professional standard.
  • You'll apply chemical treatments including perming and relaxing.
  • You'll style and finish hair using a variety of tools and methods.

  • You'll manage salon hygiene, health and safety, and professional standards.
  • You'll combine multiple technical skills to deliver full salon services independently.

How you will learn

You learn on the job in your salon, applying skills with real clients as part of your daily work. Assessment is through observation of your practical work, a portfolio of evidence, and knowledge-based assessments. Your assessor will visit you in the workplace to observe and sign off your competence across the qualification's units.
