About this course

Free Level 3 Engineering Course in Saint Helens. Classes run at Carmel College, full-time over two years.

The course is for 16 to 18 year olds. You'll study four units covering engineering principles, modern technology applications, product design and manufacture, and an individual engineering project. Units include hands-on use of CAD software such as AutoCAD and Fusion360. Assessment is split equally between external exams and coursework.

You'll finish with a Pearson Edexcel BTEC National Extended Certificate in Engineering.

Who this course is for

If you enjoy maths and physics and like problem solving then you may be interested in a career in engineering. It's equivalent to one A level, studied over 2 years which means when you have finished the course you can use it to get a job or apprenticeship, or you can use it alongside other qualifications for getting into university to study engineering related degree courses.

Entry requirements

Students should be aged 16 to 18 years old. 5 x grade 5s at GCSE (or equivalent) including grade 5 in GCSE Maths and grade 5 in Physics or 55 in Combined Science plus grade 4 in English Language.

You'll learn through classroom sessions at Carmel College. The course is assessed 50% by external exam and 50% by coursework. Units 1 and 2 are assessed by external exam. Units 3 and 4 are assessed through coursework projects. Tutors provide exam preparation support throughout.
