You'll learn how to respond to medical emergencies in the workplace, from managing unconscious casualties to dealing with wounds and shock. The course runs over 44 weeks part-time. It leads to the Highfield Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate, the qualification many employers require when designating a workplace first aider.

You'll learn how to assess an emergency scene and keep yourself and others safe.
You'll practise CPR and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
You'll learn how to manage an unconscious but breathing casualty, including recovery position.
You'll learn how to treat wounds, bleeding, and shock.
You'll learn how to recognise and respond to choking in adults.
You'll learn how to record and report a first aid incident correctly.
How you will learn
Teaching is classroom based, with a mix of instructor-led sessions and hands-on practical exercises. You'll practise first aid techniques on manikins and in simulated scenarios. Assessment includes a practical skills assessment observed by your instructor, plus a short knowledge-based assessment. Both must be passed to gain the qualification.
