Free Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work Course in Saint Helens. Classes run at St Helens Adult and Community Learning. This one-day course teaches you how to respond to everyday emergencies, carry out CPR, and give first aid safely. To be eligible for funded places, you must be aged 19 or over and a volunteer or member of a community or charitable organisation living in St Helens, Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, or Wirral.
Who this course is for
You must be aged 19 plus and a volunteer or member of a community group or charitable organisation and living within the local authority areas of St Helens, Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, and Wirral to be eligible for the funded sessions.
Entry requirements
To complete the Level 3 qualification, you need to be able to demonstrate the skills needed to pass the course, this includes being able to get down onto the floor to demonstrate CPR and other life-saving techniques. You will also need to independently complete a multiple-choice questionnaire to pass the course.
What you will learn
You'll learn how to recognise when someone needs urgent first aid help.
You'll practise CPR on an adult, including chest compressions and rescue breaths.
You'll learn how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
You'll learn how to manage an unconscious casualty and place them in the recovery position.
You'll learn how to treat choking, bleeding, shock, and other common emergencies.
You'll learn how to assess a scene safely before giving first aid.
How you will learn
The course is classroom based and runs over one full day. You'll take part in practical demonstrations and hands-on practice, including getting down onto the floor to perform CPR and other life-saving techniques. Assessment is through observed practical skills and an independent multiple-choice questionnaire, which you'll complete on the day. Both elements must be passed to achieve the qualification.

The centre will provide most materials. St Helens Adult and Community Learning will confirm anything else you need before you start. You should be able to get down onto the floor to practise CPR and other practical techniques.
