About this course

Free Level 3 Early Years Practitioner Course. Work-based training at your workplace. You train in a real early years or childcare setting while you work, building practical skills and knowledge alongside your job. The course covers child development, safeguarding, communication, and supporting learning and play. English, maths, and ICT skills are embedded throughout. The course typically takes 12 months. On completion, you'll hold the City and Guilds Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner (Early Years Educator), the qualification recognised in statutory staffing ratios for nursery work.

Who this course is for

The Early Years and Childcare qualification will provide apprentices with the knowledge and practical skills that will enable them to work in the Early Years sector in England or to undertake further training for the Children and Young People's sector.

On completion of this qualification the apprentice will be suitable for a number of supervised roles within the Early Years and Childcare sector in England.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop knowledge of child development from birth to five years.
  • You'll learn how to plan and support play and learning activities.
  • You'll understand safeguarding responsibilities and how to keep children safe.
  • You'll practise communication skills for working with children, families, and colleagues.
  • You'll learn how to observe and assess children's progress.
  • You'll develop skills in supporting children's health, wellbeing, and personal care.
  • You'll build your English, maths, and ICT skills as part of the programme.

How you will learn

You learn on the job, applying skills directly in your workplace setting. Assessment includes observations of your practice in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, and written or knowledge-based assessments. English, maths, and ICT are assessed as part of the apprenticeship. You'll work with an assessor who visits or contacts you regularly throughout the 12 months.
