About this course

Free Level 3 Criminology Course in Milton Keynes. Classes run at The Radcliffe School, full-time over two years.

The course explores why people commit crime. You'll study criminological theories, examine what drives behaviour like serial offending and family abuse, and apply those theories to real cases. Topics include the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches and how they relate to different types of crime.

You'll need five GCSEs at grade 4 to 9, including Maths or English, to join. You'll finish with a WJEC Diploma in Criminology at Level 3.

Who this course is for

How do we explain why people commit crime? What makes someone a serial killer, or abusive to their own families? Criminologists have produced theoretical explanations of why people commit crime, but which is the most useful? Are these theories relevant to all types of crime?

What can we learn from the strengths and weaknesses of each? How can these theories be applied to real life scenarios and real life crimes? Knowing about the different criminological approaches to theory will give you a sharper insight into the kind of thinking used by experts and politicians to explain crime and criminality. Public law makers are informed by theory and apply these theories to their own solutions to the problem of crime..and so could you!

People with qualifications in criminology can end up in a variety of different job roles from prison officers to solicitors or youth workers. Any role which requires working with members of the public or analytical skills would be appropriate for an individual with criminological qualifications.
