About this course

Free Level 3 Creative Media Course in Wolverhampton. Classes run at City of Wolverhampton College, full-time during the day.

The course focuses on games design and development, one of the fastest-growing areas in the creative industries. Over two years, you'll explore games development, digital production, and the technology behind interactive media. You'll also gain insight into how the games and creative media industries work. To join, you'll need five or more GCSEs at grade C or above and attend an interview with examples of your own work.

You'll finish with a University of the Arts London Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology.

Who this course is for

Video and mobile gaming is the fastest growing creative industry worldwide. We have the course to start you on the first steps to your games career. On our full-time UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology (Games Design), one of only a few games courses in the region, you will learn about the key elements of games development and gain insight into the industry you want to be part of.

You will begin your first year of study and then once successfully completed you will progress to your second year, which is equivalent to three A Levels. This is a practical, work-related course and you will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about the employment area you have chosen, you will develop the skills you need to start your career.

You will learn how to produce game concepts and stories, associated concept and digital artwork and develop games and environments in 3D. You will be able to create characters for games, sounds and effects for games, promote your own work and understand the underlying need for narrative and storytelling. You will also develop digital design skills using a host of creative software packages including 3DS Max, Unreal 4 and Adobe Photoshop as well as virtual reality on Oculus Rift.

Entry requirements

To access this course you are required to:

Have five or more GCSEs at Grade C / 4 or above. Attend an interview and provide examples of your own work to demonstrate your suitability for the course

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom-based sessions, practical projects, and studio work. Assessment is largely project-based, with coursework and portfolio submissions showing what you can do. You'll build a body of creative work across the two years. Some units may also include written assignments or presentations.
