About this course

Free BTEC National Extended Diploma in Computing in Boston. Classes run at Boston College, full-time over two years, with at least four days a week on site.

The course is free if you are under 19 on 31 August of the year you start. If you are 19 or over, fees apply, though fee remission may be available for some learners aged 19 to 23.

You'll study computing across a broad range of topics. Year one covers computer science principles, computer systems, website development, systems analysis, social media in business, and IT security. Year two moves into software development, networking, games development, mobile apps, and human computer interaction. Robotics fundamentals runs across both years. Entry requires five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths, or a Merit or above at Level 2. You'll finish with a Pearson Edexcel Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma in Computing.

The Computing National Foundation Diploma studied during the first year provides a comprehensive yet broad understanding of Computing. The structure of the programme provides an innovative and creative curriculum covering the core subject areas within IT.

Entry requirements

The entry qualifications for the Level 3 Computing Extended Diploma are five GCSEs at grade 4 or above (Old GCSE grade C or above) including English, Maths and related subjects (or equivalent) or Merit or above at Level 2.
