About this course

Free Essential Digital Skills (Entry 3) in Barrow-in-Furness. Classes run at Barrow Library, part-time during the day.

The course runs over 18 weeks and covers the everyday digital tasks most people need at home and at work. You'll learn to make appointments online, order goods and services, manage payments, join video calls, and create and save documents. You'll also practise troubleshooting basic problems on your device. No formal entry requirements are needed. You'll complete an initial assessment to confirm this is the right level for you.

You'll finish with a Gateway Qualifications Entry Level 3 computer certificate in Essential Digital Skills.

Who this course is for

The qualification provides learners with the essential digital skills which are needed in a wide range of situations in life and at work. For example, successful learners will be able to make appointments, order goods and services, organise payments using online platforms, conduct video calls, create, edit and save a range of documents, and troubleshoot basic problems on their device.

Entry requirements

The qualification is designed for students with little or no digital skills and there are no formal entry requirements. It is, however, useful for learners to be able to turn on and control a device, connect it to the internet and open browsers and applications. You will need to complete an initial assessment with the centre to ensure this is the right level of qualification for you. You may like to do the Basic IT skills workshop or the Introduction to IT before starting this course.

You'll learn through classroom-based sessions at Barrow Library. Learning is hands-on and practical, working through real digital tasks on a device. Assessment is ongoing and based on the skills you demonstrate during the course. There is no written exam.
