Who this course is for

The Pearson BTEC in Sport is an Applied General qualification for post-16 students who want to continue their education through applied learning and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment in the sport sector. Students will study a number of mandatory and optional units depending on the size of the qualification. Example units studied: Anatomy and Physiology (exam based unit 1.5 hours) Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being (2 hour external assessment), Professional Development in the Sports Industry, Sports Leadership, Sports Psychology and Practical Sports Performance. The optional units are designed to support choices in progression to sport courses in higher education, and to link with relevant occupational areas. It is excellent preparation for university courses in Sports Science, Sports Studies, Sports Therapy and Physiotherapy. This course is recognised by employers in the health and fitness industry, sports injury clinics, coaching and sports development.

Entry requirements

Students need to gain five 9-4 grades at GCSE. GCSE or BTEC Level 2 Physical Education / Sport is desirable.

Other units are assessed through coursework and portfolio evidence.
