About this course

Free BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport Course in Ivybridge. Classes run at Ivybridge Community College, full-time over two years.

This Level 3 BTEC sport qualification covers sport performance, anatomy and physiology, fitness training, coaching principles, and sports psychology. You study sport both practically and academically. It carries the same weight as one A level, and you can take it alongside other A levels or BTEC qualifications. You'll need five GCSEs at Grade 5 or above, including English and Maths.

You'll finish with a Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Extended Certificate in Sport.

Who this course is for

If you are intending to pursue health, fitness or sports-related occupations in the future such as recreation management, sports development, coaching, instructing or teaching, this course is for you. It allows you to explore sport both as a performer and academically and gives you the opportunity to study a work related qualification alongside other level 3 courses such as A levels or other BTEC qualifications. The equivalent of 1 A level, it will also give you transferable skills such as teamwork, leadership and resilience that are useful for a variety of careers and higher education courses.

How you will learn

The course combines classroom lessons with practical sessions. You'll be assessed through a mix of coursework assignments and externally set exams. Coursework units are marked by your tutors and moderated by Pearson Edexcel. Some units are assessed through timed tasks set and marked by Pearson Edexcel. Practical sessions give you hands-on experience in sport and fitness activities.
