About this course

Free BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport Course in Canterbury. Classes run at St Anselm's Catholic School, full-time over two years.

This Level 3 BTEC sport course covers sport performance, anatomy and physiology, coaching practice, fitness training, and sports psychology. You'll study both the practical and academic sides of sport. The course carries the same weight as one A level and builds transferable skills alongside your other studies. You'll need four GCSEs at grade 4 or above to apply.

You'll finish with a Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Extended Certificate in Sport.

Who this course is for

If you are intending to pursue health, fitness or sports-related occupations in the future such as recreation management, sports development, coaching, instructing or teaching, this course is for you. It allows you to explore sport both as a performer and academically and gives you the opportunity to study a work related qualification alongside other level 3 courses such as A levels or other BTEC qualifications. The equivalent of 1 A level, it will also give you transferable skills such as teamwork, leadership and resilience that are useful for a variety of careers and higher education courses.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom lessons, practical sessions, and coursework assignments. Assessment is mainly through internally assessed units, marked by your teachers and moderated by Pearson Edexcel. Some units may include externally set assessments. You'll build a portfolio of work across the two years, combining written assignments with practical evidence.
