About this course

Free Level 3 Autism Course. Study online at your own pace, fitting learning around your existing commitments. This free autism course is fully funded through the Adult Education Budget, so there is no cost to eligible learners. Over 20 weeks, you'll build a thorough understanding of autism, including the challenges and strengths autistic people may experience. The course suits anyone working with or supporting autistic people, or those looking to move into a support role. You'll finish with an NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Autism.

Who this course is for

More than 1 in every 100 people in the UK have an autism diagnosis. The Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Autism is designed for learners who want to increase their knowledge and understanding of the condition, and the challenges and strengths that autistic people may experience.

Entry requirements

To be able to compete our Level 3 courses, you must have not gained a level 3 qualification or higher after 1st April 2021.

If you have gained a level 3 or higher before the 1st of April 2021, you will need to go through our eligibility check to see if you fit the funding body's criteria.

What you will learn

  • You'll understand what autism is and how it is diagnosed in the UK.
  • You'll explore the range of ways autism can affect communication and social interaction.
  • You'll learn about the sensory differences autistic people may experience.
  • You'll examine the strengths as well as the challenges associated with autism.
  • You'll understand how to support autistic people in everyday settings.
  • You'll look at legislation and guidance relevant to autism support.
  • You'll develop knowledge of person-centred approaches to working with autistic individuals.

How you will learn

You'll study entirely online, working through course materials at a pace that suits you. Assessment is through written assignments and knowledge-based tasks completed online. There are no exams. You submit your work digitally, and a tutor will mark and give feedback on each piece. No classroom attendance is required.

The centre will provide most materials. Total Training Provision will confirm anything else you need before you start.
