Free Level 3 Applied Science Course in Leigh. Classes run at Wigan and Leigh College Leigh Campus.

The course is funded by the government for adults who don't already hold a full Level 3 qualification. You'll study full-time over 35 weeks. The course covers practical, work-related science skills. Topics include laboratory techniques, scientific investigation, and specialist knowledge for roles in industry and commerce. You'll need at least five GCSEs graded 4 or above, including maths or English and a science subject.

You'll finish with a Pearson Edexcel BTEC National Extended Diploma in Applied Science.

Our practical, work-related courses will develop your skills and knowledge, and the confidence to progress towards laboratory based employment, or university study. This is an exciting practical, work related course delivering the skills and knowledge to enable you to perform a specialist scientific role in industry, commerce and science related employment. It is an assignment based course covering three key areas (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) with emphasis on the work of scientists and technicians.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-4 including maths or English and science.
