About this course

Free Level 3 Applied Science Course in Nelson. Classes run at Nelson and Colne College, full-time over two years.

The course builds on your GCSE Biology, Chemistry, and Physics with a practical, hands-on approach. In year one you study all three sciences. In year two you choose a specialist subject to focus on. Topics include scientific investigation, data analysis, laboratory techniques, and applying theory to real experiments. You'll need five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including Grade 3 and 4 in English and Maths.

You'll finish with a Pearson Edexcel BTEC National Extended Diploma in Applied Science.

Who this course is for

On this two-year course you will continue broadening your existing knowledge from your Biology, Chemistry and Physics GCSEs with a more practical approach. With this course you can prepare yourself for a science-based degree programme and/or a lucrative career in the sciences with a course that focuses on applying scientific learning to practical work.

You will obtain a generalised scientific education in your first year before picking your own specialist subject to focus on in year two.
