About this course

Level 3 Access to HE Diploma (Health Professions) Course in Nottingham. Classes run at Nottingham College City Hub, full-time during the day. An Advanced Learner Loan can help with costs. If you go on to complete a full degree, Student Finance England will write off any outstanding loan balance.

The course is designed for adults aged 19 or over aiming for a career in nursing, midwifery, or a related health profession. More than half the content covers human biology, including cardiac and respiratory systems, infectious and inherited diseases, nutrition, reproduction, and cell biology. You'll also study sociology, inequalities of health, and psychopathology. A study skills unit builds your academic writing, research, and referencing. The course runs over one year.

You'll finish with an Access to HE Diploma (Health Professions), recognised by UK universities as a route into health-related degree programmes.

Who this course is for

If you are aged 19+ and want to pursue a career in adult, child or mental health nursing, midwifery or other health professions, this course will put you on the right track.

Entry requirements

All students will be assessed to see what level they are learning at, particularly the level of English and maths skills. Your experience and level of study will be assessed at interview and this will determine your offer of a place at college.

You’ll need 5 GCSEs at grades 9 - 4 (A* - C) including English and Maths (equivalents may be considered for maths). Relevant work experience will be considered as a substitute for a relevant Level 2 vocational qualification, plus GCSE English and Maths.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom sessions at Nottingham College City Hub. Assessment includes written assignments, reports, and presentations across the units. A personal tutor supports your studies and helps you with your university application. The study skills unit runs alongside your subject units to develop your academic English and research techniques throughout the year.
