About this course

Level 3 Access to HE Diploma (Health and Social Care) Course. Study online, at your own pace, over 12 months. This course is funded through an Advanced Learner Loan. Repayments only start once you earn over £27,295 a year, and there are no credit checks. You'll need a Level 2 Maths and English qualification to enrol. If you don't have one, support with Functional Skills is available. The course covers the knowledge and skills universities expect from health and social care applicants. It is recognised by UK universities as meeting entry requirements for degree-level study.

Who this course is for

Access courses are designed for people who have been out of education for some time - so they're the perfect option if you left school without the qualifications you'd need to go straight to university. They provide you with a good level of knowledge and skills so that you feel prepared to start a degree. Whether you're a career changer, have been out of employment and education for some time, or you're looking to pursue a subject you're passionate about - an Access to HE course could be the right option for you. This course is specifically designed to put you on the pathway to study a degree in Health and Social Care. You'll learn core knowledge that will prepare you for your degree including nutrition, the musculoskeletal system, psychology, and social factors in health care.

Entry requirements

You will need a Level 2 Maths and English qualification (GCSE or equivalent) - copies of your certificates will be requested as part of the enrolment process. If you don't have your Level 2 qualifications in Maths and English, we can support you through Functional Skills qualifications. As part of our enrolment process, you will need to complete a telephone interview and a written assessment which will ensure that the course is the right level for you.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop knowledge of health and social care principles and practice.
  • You'll explore human biology and anatomy relevant to health and care settings.
  • You'll study psychology and sociology as they apply to health and social care.
  • You'll build academic writing and research skills needed for degree-level study.
  • You'll examine social policy, legislation, and the structure of health and care services.
  • You'll develop critical thinking and analytical skills expected at university level.

How you will learn

You study entirely online, working through written assignments and assessed tasks at your own pace. Assessment is through coursework rather than formal exams. Before you start, you'll complete a telephone interview and a written assessment to confirm the course is the right level for you. Your tutor will give feedback on assignments throughout the course.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. Learning Curve will confirm anything else you need before you start.
