About this course

Free Level 2 Working with Children in Early Years and Primary Settings Course in Solihull. Classes run at Solihull College and University Centre, full-time during the day, over one year. You'll study child development, play and learning, nutrition, physical development, legislation, and the role of the practitioner. Alongside classroom sessions, you'll complete a minimum of 120 hours in a placement setting, building hands-on experience with children across a range of ages. You need three GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English and maths, to enrol.

What you will learn

  • You'll explore how children develop physically, cognitively, and emotionally at different ages.
  • You'll study how play supports children's learning and development.
  • You'll learn about the legislation that governs working with children in early years and primary settings.
  • You'll understand the role and responsibilities of a practitioner in childcare settings.
  • You'll develop knowledge of nutrition and its importance to children's health.
  • You'll build practical skills through a minimum of 120 hours of placement in a real work environment.

How you will learn

You'll learn through taught classroom sessions and practical placement experience. Each of the six mandatory units is internally assessed and graded Pass, Merit, or Distinction. You must achieve at least a Pass in every unit. You'll also complete a Professional Skills Record (a portfolio) across your placement hours. This is assessed by your placement supervisor and a centre assessor, and graded Achieved or Not Yet Achieved.
