About this course

Free Level 2 Site Carpentry Course in Rotherham. Evening classes run at Rotherham College, so you can fit study around work or other commitments. This site carpentry course covers the core skills and knowledge carpenters use on site every day. The course takes one year part-time. You'll work toward a City and Guilds Level 2 site carpentry qualification, giving you a recognised site carpentry certificate to show employers.

Who this course is for

The course is designed for entrants to roles in which they want to develop their skills, progression and/or career opportunities in this field or area. Please see the RNN Group course website for further information and advice.

What you will learn

  • You'll learn how to use and maintain carpentry hand tools and power tools safely.
  • You'll develop skills in setting out and marking timber for site work.
  • You'll learn how to form and erect structural carcassing, including floor joists and roof structures.
  • You'll practise first and second fix carpentry, including door frames, skirting, and architraves.
  • You'll understand health and safety requirements on construction sites.
  • You'll learn how to interpret drawings, specifications, and setting-out information.
  • You'll develop skills in working with timber-based sheet materials.

How you will learn

You'll learn through practical, hands-on sessions in the workshop alongside classroom-based theory. Assessment combines practical tasks, where you demonstrate carpentry skills directly, with knowledge-based questions and assignments. You'll build a portfolio of evidence as you progress through the course. Evening attendance means sessions are structured to cover both the practical and theory elements within the part-time timetable.

What you will need to bring
