About this course

Level 2 Public Services Course in Cambridge. Classes run at Cambridge Regional College, full-time during the day. The course runs for one year and covers the broad spectrum of public and protective services. You'll study six units, including health and fitness, citizenship, crime and its effects on society, and a multi-day expedition. Two of the units are assessed by exam. Entry requirements include three GCSEs at grade 3 or above, or a full Level 1 Diploma in Public Services. This level 2 public services qualification is a strong foundation for careers in the police, armed forces, fire service, and beyond.

Who this course is for

This one year programme is designed for those wishing to take the first step in preparing for a career in the protective services. You will study 6 units and sit 2 exams and cover the broad spectrum of Public Services.

The Role and Work of the Public Services (Exam) Working Skills in the Public Service Sector Citizenship, Society and the Public Services (Exam) Multi-day Expedition Experience Health, Fitness and Lifestyle for the Public Services Crime and its Effects on Society and Individuals Land Navigation by Map and Compass Security Procedures in the Public Services

Compulsory residential activities to develop team work and practical skills are an integral part of the course. There is an additional cost to cover these trips, day trips, sports kits, travel costs associated with team games or residentials, and guest speakers. This charge is paid at enrolment and is non-refundable. The Learner Support Fund is available and could help assist in paying towards these fees.

Entry requirements

You will need 3 GCSEs at grades 3 (D) in English and / or maths is desirable OR Successful completion of a full Level 1 Diploma in Public Service (pass required).

Internal Applicants will need a BTEC NQF certificate. All internal targets set by tutor must be met.

You will need to be dependable, energetic, prepared to work hard and willing to become a disciplined member of a team.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom-based sessions at Cambridge Regional College. The course includes six units in total. Two units are assessed by written exam. The remaining units are assessed through coursework and practical activities, including a multi-day expedition. You'll be expected to work as part of a team and meet targets set by your tutor throughout the year.
