Free Level 2 Mental Health First Aid Course. Study online. Self-paced distance learning with optional online workshops on Teams means you can fit study around your existing commitments. The course covers how to support colleagues with their mental health, what a mentally healthy workplace looks like, and how to build a culture of care at all levels. You'll complete it in around 6 weeks. This is a free mental health first aid course for adults living in England aged 19 and over (eligibility criteria apply).
Who this course is for
A distance learning training course, accompanied by online workshops on Teams for those who would like to learn about how mental health among staff at all levels builds a culture of care and support. This course explores how employers and colleagues can support individuals with their mental health, as well as what a mentally healthy environment is like.
Entry requirements
Candidates must provide one of the following forms of identification:
Valid in-date passport (any nationality)
Signed in-date UK photocard driving licence
UK biometric residence permit card
Birth certificate (BUT, if a birth certificate is presented as proof of identification, an additional form of identification such as a signed bank card, utility bill or a letter issued by a government department must also be provided).
What you will learn
You'll understand what mental health first aid means in a workplace setting.
You'll learn how to recognise signs that a colleague may be struggling with their mental health.
You'll explore how employers and staff can create a mentally healthy working environment.
You'll understand the role of a mental health advocate at work.
You'll learn how to have supportive conversations about mental health with colleagues.
You'll develop knowledge of relevant legislation and employer responsibilities around mental health.
How you will learn
You study online at your own pace through distance learning materials. Optional live workshops run on Microsoft Teams if you want to learn alongside others. Assessment is through online written tasks based on the course content. You do not need to attend a physical location at any point.
What you will need to bring
You'll need to provide proof of identity before you start. Accepted documents include a valid passport, a signed UK photocard driving licence, a UK biometric residence permit, or a birth certificate (with a second form of ID such as a signed bank card, utility bill, or government letter). South Essex College will confirm anything else you need when you apply.
