About this course

Free Level 2 Media Course in Cambridge. Classes run at Long Road Sixth Form College, full-time during the day. This is a practical, hands-on media qualification covering video production, digital photography, and graphic design. You'll work with Adobe Photoshop and Premiere throughout the year. The course takes one year to complete. You'll need three GCSEs at Grade 4, including at least Grade 3 in GCSE English Language and Grade 3 in GCSE Maths. Students who haven't yet achieved Grade 4 in English or Maths will retake those alongside this course.

Entry requirements

Three GCSEs at Grade 4 including: Grade 3 in GCSE English Language Grade 3 in GCSE Maths Students who have not achieved a Grade 4 in GCSE English and/or GCSE Maths must retake these as part of their study programme.

  • You'll produce short video and audio recordings using professional techniques
  • You'll edit footage and graphics using Adobe Premiere and Adobe Photoshop
  • You'll shoot and process digital photographs, including studio photography
  • You'll design print products such as posters and covers
  • You'll create a two-minute video production with a title sequence
  • You'll research broadcast media, including the BBC and its television programmes
  • You'll develop an understanding of media products and audiences

How you will learn

This course is assessed entirely through coursework, with no written exams. You'll learn by making things: video productions, photo shoots, and graphic design projects are the core of each unit. Classes run nine sessions a week at the college. Assessment is set and marked by OCR.
