Free Level 2 Ladies Hairdressing Course in Ipswich. Classes run at Suffolk New College. You'll train in professionally run commercial salons, working with real clients to develop your skills in women's and men's hairdressing. Who this course is for

On this study programme, you will be taught in a real working environment, learning in The Zone’s professionally run commercial salons, where you will implement services to develop your skills in women’s and men’s hairdressing. You can learn outside the College as well, gaining inspiration and knowledge from going on annual trade show trip, work placement and show your own innovation and skill by participating in our dynamic Annual Creative Hair Show.

Entry requirements

Three GCSEs at Grade 3 including maths and English Language, or a Level 1 qualification plus maths and English Language at Level 1.

What you will learn

  • You'll cut and style women's hair using a range of techniques.
  • You'll colour and highlight hair, including tinting and bleaching services.
  • You'll shampoo, condition, and treat the scalp and hair.
  • You'll style and finish hair using heated tools and dressing techniques.
  • You'll learn men's hairdressing services alongside the core women's programme.
  • You'll develop client consultation skills and salon communication.
  • You'll follow health, safety, and hygiene standards in a salon environment.

How you will learn

You'll learn through hands-on practice in commercial training salons, working with real clients. Assessment includes practical observations, where an assessor watches you carry out services to the required standard. You'll also complete written assignments and knowledge tests. Work placement and participation in the Annual Creative Hair Show form part of your programme.
