Entry requires GCSE English Language, Maths, and double science at grade 3 or above, and you must be aged 16 to 18 years old.

Who this course is for

Do you want to get on in the science sector but need to brush on some skills before you can move onto a level 3 course? Our one year intensive course covers GCSE English and maths plus the three separate sciences: GCSE Biology, GCSE Chemistry and GCSE Physics. This is an interesting, enjoyable yet demanding course that enables students to improve upon their previous GCSE grades.

You will have the opportunity to enhance your understanding of scientific theory and its applications alongside developing your practical skills.

If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.

Entry requirements

You must be aged between 16-18. Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance. A GCSE in English Language, Maths and double science at grade 3 (D) or above is required.

What you will learn

  • You'll study cells, tissues, organs, and how the body is organised
  • You'll explore genetics, inheritance, and how traits are passed on
  • You'll examine ecology, ecosystems, and environmental science
  • You'll learn about human biology, health, and behaviour
  • You'll investigate biotechnology and its scientific applications
  • You'll develop practical lab skills alongside scientific theory
  • You'll apply knowledge to more challenging extension material beyond core content

How you will learn

You'll study in a classroom at Leicester College Abbey Park Campus, full-time from 9am to 5pm. The course follows the AQA GCSE (9-1) Biology syllabus, combining core content with extension material.
