Level 2 Food and Beverage Service Course in Hitchin. Classes run full-time at Hitchin Centre, five days a week during the day. Tuition fees are not charged for learners aged 16 to 18 years old. If you are 19 or over, fees may apply, though an Advanced Learner Loan may be available. The course runs for 34 weeks and covers practical restaurant service, hot and cold beverages, cocktails, table service, and event and function work. You will gain hands-on experience running a live restaurant and work with local employers throughout the year. Entry requires four GCSEs at grade D or above, including maths and English, plus a Level 1 Diploma in Food and Beverage Services or equivalent experience.
Who this course is for
This course will mainly consist of practical sessions with the running of our Hart Kitchens Restaurant, with some classroom-based activities, You will also work with several local employers through the year. Areas for study include developing your food and beverage skills including hot and cold beverages, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks including cocktails, table service, table theatre and events and functions.You will hone the relevant workplace skills you have learnt at level 1 and learn how to develop these at a higher level including problem-solving and planning
Entry requirements
4 x GCSE Grade D or above including maths and English.Level 1 Diploma Food & Beverage Services or equivalent industry skills and experience.Enthusiasm to achieve and good independent learning skills are essential.

How you will learn
Most of your learning is practical, based around running Hitchin Centre's Hart Kitchens Restaurant. You will also take part in classroom sessions covering underpinning knowledge. Assessment combines practical observation in the restaurant, work with local employers, and written or knowledge-based tasks. You will be assessed on your ability to perform service skills to industry standards across the range of units.
