If you want to pursue a career involving horses, then this is an excellent place to start. You will work alongside fully qualified industry experts weekly in the first-class facilities at Caistor Equestrian Centre where we have access to over 20 horses that will be used in our practical lessons.

Caistor Equestrian Centre is a beautiful purpose-built establishment, which is fully equipped with an international sized indoor and outdoor arena, cross country courses and top of the range American Barn style stabling. The college provides free transport from Lincoln College Campus to Caistor Equestrian Centre for the practical based days, with theory-based lessons being delivered at our main campus in the city.

This Technical Certificate will provide you with the underpinning skills and knowledge in horse-related subjects and give you the experience required to develop your understanding further.

Work experience is an important part of this course as it prepares you for employment within the horse industry. As part of your course, you will be involved with Yard Skill sessions which take place on the yard you’re based at.

During this course, you’ll learn:

Equine health and welfare Working in the equine industry Horse tack and equipment Undertake routine stable duties The principles of feeding and watering horses Horse handling and grooming Introduction to lunging horses Principles of horse behaviour Riding horses under supervision.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop practical horse handling and stable management skills.
  • You'll learn how to feed, groom, and maintain the health and wellbeing of horses.
  • You'll understand how to recognise signs of illness or injury in horses.
  • You'll study equine anatomy and physiology at Level 2.
  • You'll learn how to prepare and maintain yard and stable environments safely.
  • You'll gain knowledge of equine behaviour and how to work safely around large animals.

How you will learn

You'll learn through a mix of classroom sessions and practical work with horses at the centre. Assessment is through practical observations, written assignments, and knowledge tests. You'll be assessed on your ability to carry out stable and yard tasks to industry standards, as well as your understanding of equine care theory.
