The course runs over 35 weeks, with one practical session per week in the salon and one theory session per week online. There are no formal entry requirements. You'll start with an initial assessment to confirm the level is right for you. The dog grooming assistant classes cover the core skills and knowledge needed to work in a grooming salon. This level 2 dog grooming assistant qualification is also the required step before progressing to Level 3.

Who this course is for

If you are looking to start a career within the dog grooming industry, then this is the course for you. This one-year course is aimed at both adults aged 19+ and school leavers aged 16-18 who want to learn the basics of dog grooming. The course is split between: Practical sessions once a week in the salon (different days and times are available) Theory sessions once a week online (on a Wednesday evening) The Level 2 course is also a pre-requisite for our Level 3 Dog Grooming course if you intend to progress onto that in the future with the aim of becoming a professional dog groomer. On successful completion of this course, you will have achieved the City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

If you are aged 16-18, as this is a part-time course, you will also be required to complete additional college elements as well as the course in order to top up to full-time education.

How you will learn

You'll attend one practical session per week in the college salon, working hands-on with dogs. You'll also complete one theory session per week online, on a Wednesday evening. Assessment combines practical observation in the salon with theory-based tasks completed online. Both elements run across the 35-week course.
