About this course

Free Level 2 Dog Grooming Assistant Course in Chelmsford. Classes run at Writtle College, part-time during the day. This dog grooming assistant course is designed for people with little or no previous grooming experience. You'll study over 20 weeks, learning the practical and theoretical skills needed to work safely and confidently alongside professional groomers. The course covers dog handling, basic grooming techniques, and animal welfare. You'll need English and Maths at Grade 3 or above to enrol, and learners aged 16 to 18 years old will also need a workplace placement two days a week.

Entry requirements

Under 19's must have English and Maths at no less than Grade 3 or Grade D. 16-18 must have a 2 days per week workplace. A Satisfactory references from most recent school, college or employer. All students that do not have a Grade 4 or Grade C must attend GCSE sessions

  • You'll practise basic grooming techniques including brushing, bathing, and drying.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom sessions and practical hands-on work at Writtle College. Assessment is based on practical observation and knowledge-based tasks. You'll be assessed on your ability to handle and groom dogs safely, and on your understanding of animal welfare and grooming principles. If you don't yet hold a Grade 4 or Grade C in English or Maths, you'll also attend GCSE sessions alongside the course.
