About this course

Level 2 Counselling Course. Study online, at your own pace, over 12 weeks. This counselling course does not qualify you to practise as a counsellor, but it gives you a solid grounding in counselling skills and techniques. You can use that knowledge to support people more effectively in an existing role, or as a stepping stone toward a full counselling qualification. The course is funded by the provider, so there is no cost to you regardless of your age.

Who this course is for

While this course does not qualify you to practice as a counsellor, it is suitable for those who wish to gain a better understanding of counselling skills and techniques in order to engage in appropriate interaction. You could use this knowledge to complement an existing role, or as a basis for continued study to attain a qualification in this sector.

What you will learn

  • You'll explore core counselling theories and how they apply to real conversations.
  • You'll develop active listening skills and learn how to use them in supportive interactions.
  • You'll understand boundaries and ethical practice in helping relationships.
  • You'll learn how to communicate empathy and build rapport with people in distress.
  • You'll identify when to refer someone to specialist support.
  • You'll recognise the difference between counselling skills and practising as a counsellor.

How you will learn

You'll study entirely online, working through course materials in your own time. Assessment is based on written assignments and reflective tasks that you complete and submit digitally. There are no exams. You can fit study around your existing commitments, and you'll have tutor support available throughout the 12 weeks.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. Impact Futures The Urban Building will confirm anything else you need before you start.
