About this course

Free Level 2 Car Mechanic Course in Poole. Classes run full-time at Bournemouth and Poole College of Further Education, five days a week during the day. Places are prioritised for 16 to 18 year olds, with adult applications considered once those places are filled. The course runs for one year and covers how vehicle systems work, routine maintenance, and removing and replacing engine components. You'll develop both the practical skills and the technical knowledge needed to work on light vehicles.

The Level 2 Automotive course is a 1-year full-time course that comprises of

a Level 2 Subsidiary Diploma in Automotive Maintenance and Repair.

The course is dedicated to giving the learner the ability to carry out

Maintenance and Repair on the main Vehicle components and systems.

This course is designed to enable the student to be able to remove and refit

components and have a good understanding of the vehicle systems and how they

work.

Entry requirements

You will require a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades A*-D including English and maths at grades 9-3 (formerly A*-D) and ideally Science or Resistant Materials. Alternatively, successful completion of a relevant Level 1 Certificate or Diploma Automotive qualification and have achieved a Level 1 Functional Skill in English and maths.

How you will learn

You'll learn through a mix of practical workshop sessions and classroom-based theory. The IMI Subsidiary Diploma combines skills units, assessed through hands-on tasks, with knowledge units, assessed through written or online tests. You'll work on vehicle components in a workshop setting, building both technical understanding and practical ability across the course.
