About this course

Free Level 2 BTEC Business Course in Wigan. Classes run full-time at St John Rigby Sixth Form College, one day a week over one year. This Pearson Edexcel BTEC Business Qualification covers the essentials of how businesses operate, from finance and enterprise to recruitment and employment. It counts as the equivalent of one GCSE. You'll be assessed through written assignments, presentations, practical activities, and an external exam. To enrol, you'll need at least three GCSEs at grade 3, including grade 3 in English Language and Maths.

Who this course is for

If you’re not quite ready to start on a Level 3 Technical course (T Levels) or a Vocational Level 3 course (BTEC) but want to begin on the path to your chosen career, the Transition Programme could be for you. As part of the Transition Programme you will study a BTEC Level 2 Award in your chosen subject area as well as the BTEC Level 2 Extended Award in Work Skills. You will also have the opportunity to resit GCSE English and/or Maths if you have not yet achieved a grade 4.

Entry requirements

To study a Level 2 programme you will have achieved a minimum of three grade 3s in your GCSEs, in addition to a grade 3 in English Language and Mathematics.

  • You'll study the basics of business finance, including costs, revenue, and profit.
  • You'll learn about enterprise and what it takes to start and run a business.
  • You'll examine how businesses recruit, select, and manage employees.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom-based sessions at St John Rigby Sixth Form College. Assessment is through a mix of written assignments, practical activities, and presentations, plus one external exam. There is no single end-of-year written exam for the whole qualification. Work is built up across the year through unit assignments.
