Who this course is for

This Level 2 course is suitable for both school leavers and adults alike who are looking to start a career in the beauty industry. The teaching will take place in a practical working environment within our commercial salons with the most up-to-date facilities. You will get to work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. There are also opportunities to attend external events which in the past have included MAC head office, Covent Gardens, WorldSkills Live, Salon International, Blackpool Winter Gardens and The Beauty Show at the NEC.

Entry requirements

You may have current and continued work experience in a beauty/nail salon, by which you can enrol onto the course upon a successful interview.

Due to the externally set and externally marked exam, you will need to complete an initial assessment for Level 1 English, GCSE grade 3 or above in English language or Entry Level 3 or above in Functional Skills.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop client care and communication skills used in professional salon settings.
  • You'll learn facial skin care techniques and how to assess different skin types.
  • You'll practise waxing treatments safely and effectively.
  • You'll carry out manicures and pedicures to a professional standard.
  • You'll apply makeup for a range of looks and occasions.
  • You'll perform lash and brow treatments including tinting and shaping.
  • You'll build knowledge of health, safety, and hygiene in a salon environment.

How you will learn

You'll learn through a mix of theory and hands-on practical work in commercial salon spaces. The course includes tutorials, workshops, and mandatory work experience for 16 to 18 year olds. There is an externally set and externally marked exam as part of the assessment. Practical skills are assessed in salon conditions, applying what you've learned to real treatments.
