About this course

Free Level 1 Payroll Course. Study online at your own pace, fitting learning around your existing commitments. The course takes around 4 hours to complete. You'll cover the essentials of computerised payroll for business, building practical knowledge to support a payroll role. This is a free payroll course for adults aged 19 or over who meet the funding eligibility criteria. Further eligibility may depend on where you live and your individual income. You'll finish with a VTCT Level 1 Award in Computerised Payroll for Business with certificate.

Who this course is for

This qualification is aimed at learners who are looking to expand their knowledge in this area as an addional qualification to support their role in payroll.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice,further eligibility may be linked to where you live and your individual income.

What you will learn

  • You'll understand how computerised payroll systems work in a business setting.
  • You'll learn how to process payroll data accurately using software.
  • You'll identify key payroll terminology and documentation.
  • You'll understand statutory deductions, including tax and National Insurance.
  • You'll recognise payroll deadlines and reporting requirements.

How you will learn

You'll study entirely online, working through course materials at your own pace. Assessment is through an online test or task-based activity set by VTCT. You'll complete this remotely without needing to attend a centre.
