About this course

Level 1 Mentoring Skills Course in Telford. Classes run at Learn Telford, part-time during the day. The course is free if you earn below £25,750 a year (evidence required). If you earn above that, fees may apply. You'll need to be aged 19 or over to enrol. The course takes around 10 hours in total, making it manageable alongside other commitments. Who this course is for

This accredited course is intended as a first step for people who want to volunteer or are interested to work as a Mentor. The course will offer you an opportunity to gain a Level 1 Award in Mentoring Skills for Working with Young People (AIM Qualification).   As this is an accredited level 1 course, at the start of the session the tutor will ask you to complete a short assessment to ensure that the course is appropriate for you. Due to the course content, you will need a sufficient understanding of English to complete this qualification.

The course is free if you are: Unemployed or you are employed and earn less than £25,750 annual gross salary

Learners must be aged 19 or over from 1st August of the Academic Year for which they are enrolling

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom-based sessions at Learn Telford. Teaching is delivered face to face, with group discussion and practical activities. Assessment is carried out during the course. A short initial assessment at the start confirms the course is appropriate for you. The tutor will guide you through the content across the 10 hours of study.
