About this course

Free Level 1 Hair and Beauty Course in Durham. Classes run at New College Durham's Framwellgate Moor Campus, full-time during the day. Over one year, you'll build foundational skills in shampooing, colouring, and styling, working alongside peers to practise techniques in a salon environment. This hair and beauty qualification introduces you to the hairdressing industry and prepares you for Level 2 study.

Completion of this course will mean you possess the fundamental knowledge and skills required to pursue and progress into a career of beauty therapy.

You will develop the skills needed to perform basic manicures, basic facials, apply make-up effectively and demonstrate skills in nail art techniques. Face painting and creative make-up skills.

You will gain hands-on experience working with real-life clients during your work placement at an external salon, and during your practical sessions in the college’s on-site salon, Halo.

Assessment is practical and knowledge-based, carried out throughout the year. You'll be assessed on your ability to perform treatments to the standard required by the City and Guilds qualification.
